When I Was a Mermaid at Gaylord Palms

Disclosure: I was invited by the Gaylord Palms to stay and experience these offerings.

I got to be part of that world. Ya know.. the mermaid one. I love all things mermaid and the Merfolk Academy at Gaylord Palms let me try on a fin to flip around for a few. It was pink and sparkly and flipping the little bottom part when I flexed my feet totally made me smile. It’s the little things in life, right? I’ve seen people wearing elaborate, rubber looking mermaid fins online. They look uncomfortable to a person who doesn’t like small spaces. However, the mermaid tails at the Gaylord Palms are not those. They feel like bathing suit material but stay put when you swim around. There was a little foot piece my feet went in and the whole thing was really comfortable. So if you’ve wanted to swim like a mermaid, you can make it happen at the Gaylord Palms resort in Kissimmee this summer.

There’s more to the story, too. The Merfolk Academy is just one of the experiences at Gaylord Palms SummerFest. It’s a celebration of all things pirate with a little bit of princess and mermaid mixed in. It’s the perfect theme for this resort because one of the best details of the property is the huge fort inside. It totally says pirate and treasure to me.

My other favorite addition for the summer is the SoBe Splash Party at the pool. There was a DJ and a pirate hosting games with the kids, telling pirate jokes and giving out treasure. It was very entertaining. This is a free offering for guests and it takes place from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. The Gaylord Palms pools are great. If you’re visiting with kids you’re going to need to stop by the Cypress Springs water play area. It’s huge and has water slides. There’s also a gigantic screen at the pool that plays movies at night, we saw a little bit of Frozen, and cartoons in the morning. But wait, there’s more. The South Beach pool is for adults only. It’s really long and lined with palm trees. I enjoyed it during the day with friends and at night with my fiancĂ©. The pool scene at Gaylord Palms is beautiful and worth including in your stay.
