Disclosure: I was invited to an advanced screening of this film. | The Lion King 2019 Review
This is the first live action film remake that made me feel like I was seeing a movie for the first time. It’s been some time since I’ve watch the animated movie from 1994. Small changes made The Lion King 2019 remake feel all new. The loudest roar in this film definitely goes to the comedy of Timon and Pumba. They’re the loveable little guys we know and love but the comedy is freshly updated. They were my favorite part and something I’ll laugh at over and over again.
I’m a no spoiler kind of girl so here are some vague things of note. I don’t cry at movies often but the Mufasa scene got me bad. Beyonce’s singing gave me chills every time. All the songs and the score are perfect except for Be Prepared. Kind of a bummer because that’s such a hit on the original soundtrack. The filmmakers did a nice job adjusting some of the characters and plot points to be more inclusive and accurate.
Essentially, The Lion King 2019 version is also an animated film. The characters are computer generated imagery. The animals look so incredibly real though. Throughout the two hours there were only two or three times I noticed something CGI looking. The landscape in The Lion King is breathtaking and the real star. I’m a girl that spends most of her time in theme parks but nature is my true love. I am completely refreshed by the pacing of the movie too. The slow peaceful sweeps across the pride lands and lucious jungle add so much. In an era of bright, fast and flashy, over-stimulating movies The Lion King is just the change of pace we all need.

Ready to be refreshed π canβt wait to see it!!
I couldn’t agree more with you. This film felt so new and refreshing. I was in complete awe of the beauty and wonder of the landscapes and those gorgeous animals. Mufasa’s death felt so much more real and the tears were flowing! Thank you for an incredible review, when so many critics are missing the point. ππ»π¦π
