What is Dapper Day?
Started in February 2011, DAPPER DAY organizes fashionable gatherings held twice a year (spring and fall) at the Disney Resorts in LA, Orlando, and Paris (autumn event only). DAPPER DAY Events celebrate the tradition of “stepping out in style” and are meant to showcase you at your best. We are not period-specific. All manner of elegant attire is encouraged from vintage-inspired classics to chic contemporary looks. Active and retired military are encouraged to wear your dress blues if you like. This event isn’t affiliated with Disney but it’s nicely organized, has meet-ups throughout the day and even offers ticket discounts (and room discounts in Disneyland) for participants. Imagine riding the Liberty Belle around the Rivers of America with a boatload of dressed up Disney fans. Magic.
My First Time at Dapper Day
When I heard about this dressy occasion my first thought was, when is the next one because I’m going. March 9th I had friends going to Dapper Day at Walt Disney World and decided to invite myself along. There were a decent amount of participants and it felt delightful to wear pearls and feel fancy around Magic Kingdom. If you know anything about me, you know I’m super girly and love to get glam. When it comes to Disney Parks attire you can get away with a lot. You can wear shorts because it’s hot, yoga pants because you’ll be walking around a lot or a dress because you’ll be taking a lot of pictures. Anything goes. Dapper Day inspires the Disney Parks-goer to step out in style. Yes, please. Most of the friends I went with had been before and they all looked fabulous. [from DapperDay.com]

What Do You Do on Dapper Day?
Though meet-ups are planned for Dapper Day, it’s totally up to you if you want to go or not. There was a carousel and Liberty Belle ride for the group but we pretty much did our own thing. I wasn’t sure how many people would be lining up to join the fun so I was ok just seeing other dapper participants around Magic Kingdom. Me & my friends took tons of pictures, enjoyed each others company, ate and went on rides. Pretty much a normal day.. plus some fancy.

My Thoughts on This Event
There is something special about putting time into how you look. Planning an outfit, hair and makeup is so much fun for me. I believe that when people care about their appearance there is also a bit of an attitude change that follows it. It felt so ladylike to dress up and prance around Walt Disney World. We aren’t always given the opportunity to dress up nice so if you like that sort of thing why not do it just because?
The next Walt Disney World Dapper Day will be on September 27th, 2014 at Hollywood Studios. This park is the perfect backdrop for such an occasion.
