Cafe Orleans Review

There’s a culture rich place in Disneyland called New Orleans Square. It’s home to Pirates of the Caribbean, my favorite stop on the Disneyland Railroad and quite a few delicious dining experiences. Cafe Orleans falls into the category of affordable table service restaurants at Disneyland. Peep the menu below for prices and offerings. On a Monday in late August we were able to walk up at peak lunch time and be seated after just a twenty minute wait. We dined here once before and while it’s not a place I have to visit every time I go I definitely enjoy it. Cafe Orleans has a dark and polished, homey interior and an outdoor patio with great views of the Rivers of America.

Disneyland Cafe Orleans Review Three Cheese Monte Cristo | SparklyEverAfter.com

Three-Cheese Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans in Disneyland. The fanciest grilled cheese I’ve ever met.

I usually make one or two Disneyland dining reservations, depending on the length of the stay, and leave the rest up to exploration and chance. We happened upon Cafe Orleans once before but don’t make a reservation for it usually because the crowned New Orleans Square restaurant of choice for us is Blue Bayou. We always get the Pommes Frites appetizer which is really just a parmesan and garlic overlay on french fries but it’s really good. Definitely try those. The sauce that comes with the Pommes Frites is excellent.

While I had heard of the Monte Cristo sandwich time and again I saw it had ham in it on the Blue Bayou menu and let my eyes wander to other menu items. I just don’t like ham. Well. This time at Cafe Orleans I noticed the Three-Cheese Monte Cristo and a tiny Mardi Gras colored confetti canon when off in my head. I was happy my fiancé offered to split this meal with me because I had seen a Monte Cristo before and they are massive even to a good eater like myself. The Pommes Frites appetizer and this entree were totally filling. This Monte Cristo, really like an extra fancy, crunchy grilled cheese, was accompanied by a berry sauce that was so good. It still tasted like a lunch though, not a dessert, in case you’re wondering.

We also enjoyed the ever popular Mint Julep drink. It’s non-alcoholic, light and refreshing and kind of reminds me of a lemonade but minty. There’s a Mint Julep stand outside in New Orleans Square, that also offers Mickey beignets, but if you’d rather get free refills on yours order one with your meal at Cafe Orleans or Blue Bayou.

See the official Cafe Orleans site for more info or to make a reservation.
