“I wore my sparkly best because I heard you like sparkles, Mrs. Davis.” It was true. I picked out something cute and conservative with a lot of glitz to wear to meet this living lady Legend. Last year at the D23 Expo, I heard Alice Davis talk about her time working on It’s a Small World, her experiences with Walt and her husband, Disney Legend Marc Davis. Sitting in a full room with her at the Anaheim Convention Center was a big deal to me. Though I’m tall, I sat on my foot in my seat, timidly peeking around silhouetted heads in the audience, hoping to catch a memorable glimpse of her and X Atencio with my own eyes. Now I stood next to her in a one on one conversation. Alice Davis told me in her soft spoken and delicate voice that she did enjoy sparkles. When I complimented her on the tiara she was wearing, she told me a nice girl gave it to her off of her head because she complimented her on it. I guess if Alice Davis liked my tiara I’d give it to her too.
This was at a book signing at the Art of Disney at Downtown Disney. She was signing a book about Marc Davis. I got my Tinker Bell book signed by Mindy Johnson this day too and she was an absolute doll. She told me and my boyfriend they were surprising Mrs. Davis with a visit from Tinker Bell that night at Wishes. Even more interesting to me than meeting Mrs. Davis is the thought of her having a Disney vacation and enjoying the company she and her husband contributed to so greatly.
Alice Davis spent a lot of time talking to us. Probably too much but I’m cool with it because it meant the world to me. Jim told her we thought of her and Marc when we visited Club 33 before it was refurbished. A little gleam of excitement made her sit up and begin flipping through the book about her husband. Eventually she got tired of flipping the pages and enlisted Jim to flip until she found the page she was looking for. Then there it was. A blue green picture of a shapely gal. Art, her art, that was now in the new Club 33. She was giddy over it. And when I go to Club 33 again (bless your heart in advance person that invites me in the future) I will admire that piece because its creator told me it was there with great excitement despite all her other contributions at Disneyland.
