Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Guardians of the Galaxy Photo Credit The Walt Disney Studios       Guardians of the Galaxy contains an interesting mixture of heroism and comedy but not the sly, dashing humor we’ve come to know from Marvel via Iron Man and Captain America. This new breed of funny overpowers the seriousness in the film. I found myself expecting Guardians to stumble through the doorway rather than make a valiant entrance. My expectations often rang true. And I liked it.

I was a little concerned this would be a tale of underdogs that become amazing through a series of fortunate and accidental events. There’s more to it. There’s actually a very intricate and intertwined backstory to why each of the Guardians end up on the same team. There’s more at stake than their own fates and there are deep story lines too. All placed in front of a fun, quirky and interesting space atmosphere, Guardians of the Galaxy kept me interested until about three quarters through. Then I felt it pick up again.

If you were intrigued with the humor in the advertisements for this film, it definitely delivers in that sector of the quadrant. My theater laughed a bundle. Know that it’s not for kiddos though. A bit of language but not enough to keep even my sensitive ears from seeing it again.

I’ll try a bite of anything Marvel is serving but it wasn’t love at first sight when I saw previews for Guardians of the Galaxy. By the time I left the theater, Groot and Rocket had earned their way into my favorite character pocket. I am Groot.
