I’ve never had an ear hat. Never. My parents tell me the story of my first visit and how they wanted to get me a pair so badly, but I refused them. (They had to force me to get something on my first visit, but that’s a story for another time.) Since growing up, I still haven’t had the desire to get ear hats, but after returning to the World for the first time in forever in 2011, I fell in love with ear headbands! As my collection has grown, it’s become increasingly awkward to store. Ear hats you fold onto each other and they sit and look pretty. Ear headbands are another story. The problem I ran into was how can I store these ear headbands, still enjoy being able see them, and not take up a ton of space. So I came up with this hanging ribbon storage option.
Your first step will be to grab your supplies. I got::
- super glue
- hot glue
- at least 7/8 inch or 1 inch wide ribbon
- a hook
- velcro
- scissors
After you have gathered your supplies, follow the steps below to make your hanging ear headband storage::
Since having mine hanging for a few weeks now, here are a few tips to make your’s better!
- If you’re going to use the pre-sticky velcro (like the one in the picture above), only make your ribbon long enough for three ear headbands. Any longer and the ears are too heavy and the headbands will pop open the top velcro set
- Other velcro options are available in longer pieces and sew-on options so you could adjust the length of your headband ribbon
- Use the super glue to give the velcro squares some extra stick and the hot glue to glue down the ends of the ribbon for a finished look. If you use the super glue for ribbon to ribbon gluing, it’s hard to hold it together without getting stuck.
- Command hooks would be wonderful hooks if you want to hang your headband ribbon on your wall. A suction hook similar to the one pictured needs to attach to a slick, solid surface and doesn’t adhere to walls well.
