Big Hero 6 and Feast Deliver

Big Hero 6 and Feast Review

Feast Puppy WinstonMy dog could be a stand in for Winston, the Boston Terrier and main character in Feast, but I’m not biased. This short film plays before Big Hero 6 and dog lovers should get their awww ready. In addition to a cute story, Winston’s animation and comedic timing are highly noteworthy and will have you smiling the next day.

Hiro and Baymax

Big Hero 6 feels like a distant descendent of Iron Man and The Incredibles. Budgets are out of the question which leads to limitless creations. Super heroes with different powers combine to dominate a mysterious and looming villain. All of this in a super cool, imaginary setting that makes a tech fan giddy. I fell in love San Fransokyo at first sight. The textures and architecture are a delight. It’s the perfect combination of the city on the West coast, the metropolis in the Eastern Hemisphere and a little imagination.

This film rightfully glorifies intelligence, perseverance and imaginative uses of technology for human advancement. In Big Hero 6 it’s cool to be a ‘nerd’ and college looks amazing. Special thanks to The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and the Tokyo Humanoid Robotics Institute at Waseda University are in the credits. I hope you enjoy the blue sky look into higher education in this movie as much as I did.

The characters are rich and new in this film. They’re completely opposite of Frozen but equally as deserving of merit. I’m all about princesses. I’m still listening to and watching Frozen on the regular but I found Big Hero 6 to be a keeper in a whole different way. I hope people see this movie with an open mind and appreciate the world and its inhabitants for their originality. Baymax, the marshmallow fella from the commercials, is more than I could have imagined. Honey Lemon is just as lovable as Baymax. She’s my favorite hero in this movie for sure. Her enthusiasm and girly touch spoke to me. She does for robotics what Elle Woods did for law.

Big Hero 6 has something for boys and girls, young and grown up. The story is sad at points and does have some things you may have to explain to little ones later so be prepared. There’s an excellent twist and a happy ending of course. Get ready for big laughs and big thinking with Big Hero 6 in theaters November 7th, 2014.

Honey Lemon Big Hero 6Disclosure: I was invited to a media preview of this film.
