Drinks of the Leaky Cauldron

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley’s theme is not broken by your muggle need for nourishment. In fact, when you’re lunching the World is still intricately detailed from floor to ceiling and also from menu to mouth. It’s no surprise, really, after hearing rumors of J.K. Rowling being involved in every detail down to the disposable utensils used. Aside from it’s brilliant creator, the Wizarding World has many individuals behind the scenes, creatively crafting the experience. We were lucky to speak with Jason who has been behind food and beverage of the Wizarding World since the beginning Hogsmeade days.

Jason Smyth Universal Food and Beverage Butterbeer at the Leaky Cauldron

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade first brought us the liquid treats of Butterbeer, Frozen Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice. They were an attraction themselves, turning each guest into a character of the Wizarding World and allowing us to not only see what wizards see but do what wizards do. These drinks are available in Diagon Alley and at the Leaky Cauldron as well. The Leaky Cauldron drinks are another prime example of attention to detail. Each bursting with original flavor and enriching the story of your Wizarding day. You’ll also find Gillywater on the menu. This is the same as Muggle water but you can add Wizarding fun to your drink outside at Eternelle’s Elixirs. The following four Leaky Cauldron drinks are fabulous and bewitching and deserve extra attention:

Leaky Cauldron drinks: Peachtree Fizzing Tea, Tongue Tying Lemon Squash, Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice, Fishy Green Ale

Peachtree Fizzing Tea has a strong peach nectar flavor and is slightly effervescent so you taste a bit of carbonation. I had this when I first visited the Leaky Cauldron and remembered it fondly. Unique and refreshing, the Peachtree Fizzing Tea reminded me of a delicate, airy, peach punch.

Tongue Tying Lemon Squash is the number one seller, Jason told us. A sweet, tart and tangy style of lemonade with a fresh lemon sliced in half and smashed into the glass. I would simply describe this as the best lemonade ever. Bursting with flavor and with all the right amounts of each. Not too sour, not too sweet.

Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice is garnished with a cinnamon sugar rim and a fresh orange slice on top. It’s recommended to drink this without a straw so you get a little of the cinnamon sugar in your sips for the full flavor. I loved this detail and the drink itself. Tremendously tasty but still light and refreshing.

Fishy Green Ale is a cloudy beverage, symbolizing a murky body of water. On the bottom lay blueberry boba popping pearls or “fish eggs” as they are themed to be. After drinking this, other beverages tasted like water. They are all good and delicious but the flavor of the Fishy Green Ale is like an explosive spell yet still not overpowering. So impressive. Like other boba teas, this drink reaches it’s full deliciousness when a sip consists of a little liquid and a bubble. Mmm. I actually don’t even like boba bubbles in my tea usually because the texture creeps me out but this didn’t at all. It’s perfect and wonderful. It took the longest to create as well. Jason shared that it was far passed its creation deadline but, we all agreed, well worth it.

More Leaky Cauldron Drinks to Come
Jason also told us there are some new drinks in the works for the Leaky Cauldron. One being the ever popular warm Butterbeer which was served at an in-park Harry Potter event where enough couldn’t be produced to meet the popular demand. I can’t wait to try it, Jason! I trust any beverage coming to the Wizarding World will continue to make potions professors everywhere proud.
