Dream It! Do It! Marty Sklar’s New Book

20130819-121129.jpgDream It! Do It! My Half-Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdom is Marty Sklar’s new book with introductions by Ray Bradbury and Richard M. Sherman. After retiring from Walt Disney Imagineering in 2009, Mr. Sklar spent two years writing this memoir. In addition to his long working career, Sklar also celebrates 56 years of marriage to his wife.

At his presentation at the D23 Expo Mr. Sklar joked,”Tidy has never been part of my vocabulary.” He poked fun at the daunting publishing process and shared the importance of patience, memory, research and flexibility. Marty Sklar story boarded his chapters in Disney fashion and wrote the manuscript in long hand because he thought writing it on a computer seemed so permanent. The chapters in Dream It! Do It! are titled with intriguing quotes and phrases. Sklar noted some of his book’s topics like Walt the person and Walt the leader, Disney after Walt and inside Imagineering. In Marty Sklar’s new book you’ll find special details like Walt’s four C’s: curiosity, confidence, courage and constancy and Mr. Sklar’s own Mickey’s Ten Commandments. He told us some stories in the book like a special one about his office and a funny one about Herb Ryman dawdling at drawing the castle. Some interesting facts about Marty Sklar; he would never start a project until it was clear in his mind and he contributed to and attended the opening of all 11 major Disney theme parks.

Mr. Sklar describes his book as a good read and great ride through Disney parks history. From working with Walt on the World’s Fair to Walt Disney World and beyond, Marty Sklar has a lot reflect on. This gentlemen has contributed an incredible amount to The Walt Disney Company and I’m excited to enjoy stories in his very own words.
